Information we collect

When you contact us, we collect your name, email address, the subject and message you provide, plus any course and schedule preferences. Previously submitted class-notification requests may remain in our records, including the email address, course preference and consent history. New notification signups are no longer offered. Contact us to withdraw a previous request. When you register for classes, we collect participant name, email, optional phone, course information, enrollment and payment records. We retain electronically signed waivers including signature identity, signed agreement content, timestamp and technical audit information. Our servers may process IP addresses and request data for security and abuse prevention.

Student preparation and communications

We record the American Sailing ID and sailing goal you supply, follow-up email and unsubscribe preferences, course completion status and email delivery records. We use ASIDs to register students with American Sailing and record certifications. Essential enrollment, preparation, schedule and safety emails support your class. After course completion, we send a 48-hour follow-up and review request, a two-week next-step email and a following-month availability email. Use the email preference link or student portal to stop optional messages. We retain a hashed email suppression record to honor opt-outs. This does not stop essential class or sign-in messages.

The contact page embeds Google Maps, which can receive your IP address and browser data when the map loads. ASA and retailer links open their own websites and are governed by their respective privacy practices.

Payments

Our payment processor hosts secure payment checkout. Our booking system records transaction and payment references and payment status, not full payment-card numbers. The payment processor separately handles payment information under its own policies.

How we use information

We use the information to respond to inquiries, administer classes, verify enrollments, communicate about schedules, send confirmation emails, handle waivers and refunds, protect our systems, and meet applicable recordkeeping requirements.

Service providers

We use hosting and email-delivery providers to operate the website and send communications, and our secure payment processor to process online payments. School personnel who need information to administer classes and safety requirements may access appropriate records. We may disclose information when required by law or in an emergency as legally permitted.

Cookies and security

Our website uses essential session cookies for administration, security, and forms. We apply access controls and other safeguards, but no internet system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Website activity counts

We count aggregate page views, interest-button clicks, new course requests, and successful contact submissions to understand how the website is used. These counts use no advertising cookies or visitor identifiers and do not contain email addresses, message contents, or full page URLs. Separate abuse-prevention counters use hashed IP addresses and hourly limits. They are not used for advertising.

Retention and requests

We retain records for the time reasonably necessary for the uses described above and applicable legal, accounting, insurance, and dispute-resolution obligations. For questions about access, corrections or deletion of your information, contact us. Some requests may be limited by record-retention obligations.

Adults only

Current sailing-course registrations are intended for adults age 18 or older.

Policy changes

We may update this notice when our practices change. We will post the revised notice and update its date.
