Terminal Island Sailing · Official American Sailing affiliate
OUR STORY
An American Sailing affiliate with a purpose.
Real-world seamanship. Welcoming instruction. A commitment to opening the waterfront to more people.
WHO WE ARE
Our mission
Terminal Island Sailing is an official American Sailing affiliate school created to help more people learn to sail throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. We aim to make sailing education safe, practical, affordable, and accessible.
Sailing builds more than boat-handling skills. It encourages good judgment, teamwork, leadership, self-reliance, respect for the environment, and confidence on the water. As an American Sailing affiliate, we offer an established ASA certification pathway and hands-on sailing education and seek to build community partnerships, scholarship opportunities, and reduced-cost programs as the school grows.
OUR AMERICAN SAILING TEAM
Meet Captain Andrei and Georgiy

Captain Andrei Nemoi
Captain · U.S. Coast Guard licensed
Andrei is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain with decades of West Coast sailing experience. He has introduced hundreds of people to sailing and brings practical knowledge of seamanship, vessel operations, and on-water safety.
His approach is welcoming and hands-on: students learn to understand the boat, work as a crew, and make sound decisions at the helm.
Georgiy Khayet
American Sailing Instructor
Georgiy is an American Sailing instructor, coastal skipper, and active racing sailor. He regularly sails along the Southern California coast, including trips to Catalina Island and Ensenada, and has raced in both California and the Mediterranean.
He holds instructor credentials for ASA 101, 102, and 103. He emphasizes clear explanations and practical skills, including sail trim, navigation, docking, anchoring, and safety.

SAILING TOGETHER
From coastal cruising to racing.
Captain Andrei Nemoi and Georgiy Khayet co-skippered in the Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race, where their crew finished in second place.
That experience reflects what the school values: preparation, sound seamanship, teamwork, and learning through time on the water.

WHAT CERTIFICATION CAN OPEN UP
Learn to sail. Build toward chartering.
As students advance through ASA 101, 103, and 104, they develop the skills and certifications that may help meet chartering requirements. Eligible graduates can apply to American Sailing for its International Proficiency Certificate (IPC), designed as evidence of bareboat competency for participating international charter operators.
COMMUNITY FIRST
More opportunity to get on the water.
We want to collaborate with schools, colleges, community organizations, and maritime educators to introduce more people to sailing. As support grows, we hope to expand scholarships, reduced-cost instruction, and introductory community sailing opportunities.
