YOUR SAILING GOALS

Where do you want sailing to take you?

Start with no experience. Build confidence one course—and one sailing day—at a time.

Whether sailing is a bucket-list dream or the start of a new way of life, we’ll help you choose your next step. These are suggested learning paths, with practice and experience between courses. ASA 101–104 are our current course offerings; dates vary. Courses beyond ASA 104 are future progression options across the ASA network, not currently scheduled by our school.

Day sailing with family and friends

ASA 101 → 103 → 118

Build the sailing, seamanship and docking skills to enjoy local outings as a confident skipper or capable crew.

Club racing and crewing

ASA 101 → 102 → 103

Learn efficient sail trim, boat handling and crew communication. Regular sailing and racing practice matters just as much as courses—ask us about local crewing opportunities.

Bareboat chartering

ASA 101 → 103 → 104 → IPC application

Develop the skills to plan and skipper a cruising sailboat. Add ASA 114 for catamaran-specific training. ASA 104 supports an application for ASA’s International Proficiency Certificate; acceptance depends on the charter company, destination and your sailing experience. Confirm requirements with your charter operator before booking.

Local waters and coastal cruising

ASA 101 → 103 → 104 → 105 → 106; add 118

Build navigation, passage planning and skipper judgment for weekend passages and longer coastal trips. Add ASA 114 for multihulls, ASA 116 for tender handling and ASA 119 for marine weather.

Offshore and bluewater cruising

ASA 101 → 103 → 104 → 105 → 106 → 107 or 117 → 108

Prepare over time for ocean passages, watchkeeping, emergency procedures and crew leadership. Add docking (118), marine weather (119) and radar (120). Celestial navigation (107 or 117) is part of the prerequisite path to ASA 108. This is usually a multi-year journey with substantial sea time, not a shortcut through certificates.
